Artist statement
For the twentieth straight year, the Saint John Arts Centre has offered a 20-week Portfolio Development Program to high school students in this part of the province. This program, which is unique in New Brunswick, is designed for students who are dedicated to the pursuit and study of visual art as a career.
The students who completed this year’s program are: Adam Hare, Stav Gan, Jonah Liberty, Anna Welsford, Eve Peters, Shaked Gan, and Evangelia Valardo
The purpose of this program was to provide each student an opportunity to develop a proper portfolio for presentation to a post-secondary school. This year, seven local professional artists and educators – Amy Ash, Nathan Cann, Alison Gayton, Fred Harrison, Maggie Higgins, Melissa Kennedy, and Ralph Seely – provided formal instruction in their specialized topics (sculpture, printmaking, cyanotypes, ceramics, drawing, life drawing, painting, and colour theory.)
The Saint John Arts Centre would like to thank the program’s founding sponsor, the James Venner Russell Foundation; Emera New Brunswick; and our other private donors for their continued generous funding of this important program.
We would also like to acknowledge these companies whose continued support also contributed greatly to this years’ success: Eastward Sales Limited and Endeavours ThinkPlay.
