Artist Statement:
Through many years of figuring out medication [dosage] and learning how to heal/navigate from CPTSD [complex post traumatic stress disorder], I am able to find and create an understanding of the trauma I experienced by embroidering, sewing, illustrating and sculpting memories, and feelings into art pieces. My practice can be divided into four parts that at times overlap; 1. Share my personal story as a an infant and child in the hospital system and as a woman with multiple invisible disabilities/diseases. 2. De-Sterilize aspects of hospital spaces and tools that cause vivid trauma sensations [example: My Plush Needle. A needle is a tool that most people have a fear – making it an oversized plush object eliminates and subverts its usage – turning it into an object that is used for external comfort.] 3. Nostalgic Play in sterile environments such as a hospital or doctor’s office waiting room. 4. Artistic Learning tools for healthcare professionals and the general public.
