Andrew McIntosh

Dates: Sept. 4th - Oct. 23rd

Andrew was born in Saint John in 1947 and except for a period of 9 years, stayed close to the city. He graduated from Saint John High School and graduated from UNB, Fredericton with a BA in German Literature. Shortly afterwards, he and his wife Andrienne (Doucet) lived in Europe for three years. 

Upon their return to Canada, they spent an interesting three years in Cape Breton, in what was known then as the “back to the land movement”. Or at least their version of it, constructing a log (cordwood) house, living off the grid and attempting to grow their own food. 

That experiment ended in January 1980. Andrew & Adrienne returned to Saint John, and Andy went to NBCC and became a licensed tradesman. 

Andrew and his wife Adrienne have lived on the West Side (since 2018) with two cats and an endless supply of books. They have enjoyed canoeing and kayaking and have explored much of the Bay of Fundy while living for 30 years in Mispec, where they renovated an old farmhouse. 

An interest in history led him to volunteer as a researcher and guide at the NB Black History Society. 

In 2013, after retirement, he turned his attention to pursue painting more seriously. In this, he was most fortunate to receive instruction from Herzl Kashetsky and in working with many established painters in his weekly classes. 

His works have been displayed at the Sunbury Shores Gallery in Saint Andrews, the Grand Manan Gallery, and the Saint John Exhibition, where he was twice awarded the Best in Show prize. 

Aside from some pieces displayed at the Saint John Art Club in Brunswick Square, this is Andrew’s first show in his native town.
