Oil Painting (Sept. 2026)

Manami Fukuda's popular oil painting class offers returning students the opportunity to advance their skills by choosing their own subject matter. Bring a few reference photos to the first class, and Manami will help you select a suitable image to work on over the six-week course.

For beginners, this introductory class focuses on still life. In this six-week course, you will learn about the shapes of objects, light, composition, perspective, and colour. A reference image will be provided. With plenty of one-on-one guidance, you will develop a step-by-step understanding of the layering method of oil painting to create a range of tones, textures, clarity, and form. After learning the basic skills of oil painting, you will be encouraged to develop your own style and personal techniques. The goal of this class is to help you become comfortable and confident using oil paints while discovering the pleasure and rewards of creating your own artwork.
